Type 2 Diabetes and Vascular Complications: Implications for Rehabilitation

Developing effective therapy interventions for a patient with vascular complications due to advanced (stage 4) diabetes requires an understanding of this disease and its impact on the patient's clinical presentation, regardless of their referring diagnosis. This course reviews the most common vascular complications seen in this patient population and the impact of these complications on the patient's goals, plan of care, and progression. A series of case studies is used to model best practices for evaluating and treating patients referred to rehabilitation therapy with a comorbidity of advanced diabetes in post-acute care settings.
